Several months ago, Bing told us seven ways Bing is better than Google at image search.

This week, Bing posted more examples in the Bing blog of why Bing is better than Google at image search. The examples are of course specific sets of queries that show better results for Bing over Google. I wouldn’t be surprised if Google can do the same thing on a set of examples on their end.

That being said, here are some of the new examples:

(1) Bing says they are better at understanding image quality, just compare a search for [photos of yunnan] where Google shows maps and Bing shows images of Yunnan, the resort.

(2) Bing says they are better at understanding objects.

(3) Bing says they are better at understanding colors.

(4) Bing says they are better at filtering images by characteristics such as by size, color, layout, date and even license (e.g. Creative Commons).

(5) Bing says they are better at showing pictures of body parts, such as faces, shoulders and bodies or combinations of such, such as faces and shoulders.

(6) Bing says they are better at filtering by image style, such as clip art, line drawings or maps.

(7) Bing says they are better at cropping image results on mobile devices, where making an effort not to cut off key areas of the photo.

(8) Bing says they show higher quality thumbnails in the search results without using much bandwidth from the source site.

(9) Finally, Bing is working on making images more a focal point of their new search experience. So they said they are “just starting on this journey so please stay tuned for more to come.”
