Universal Robots has unveiled its AI Accelerator, enabling a new wave of AI-powered cobot innovation
Universal Robots, a Danish collaborative robot (cobot) company, today debuted the UR AI Accelerator , a ready-to-use set of hardware and software tools built to further enable application development cobots powered by artificial intelligence.
Designed for commercial and research applications, the UR AI Accelerator provides developers with an extensible platform to build applications, accelerate research and reduce time to market for AI products. https://www.universal-robots.com/products/ai-accelerator/
The toolkit brings artificial intelligence acceleration to Universal Robots’ (UR) PolyScope X next-generation software platform and is powered by NVIDIA Isaac ™ accelerated artificial intelligence libraries and models running on the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin ™ system-on-module. The NVIDIA Isaac Manipulator gives developers the ability to bring accelerated performance and cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies to their robotics solutions. The toolkit also includes a high-quality, newly developed 3D camera Orbbec Gemini 335Lg .
The toolkit offers developers a complete Go-to-Market architecture and is ready to use out of the box.
Through built-in demo programs, AI Accelerator leverages the UR platform to enable functions such as position estimation, tracking, object detection, trajectory planning, image classification, quality control, state detection, and more. The UR AI Accelerator that enables PolyScope X also gives developers the freedom to choose exactly the toolsets, programming languages and libraries they want to use, plus the flexibility to create their own programs.
“With the UR AI Accelerator, we provide our partners with everything they need to develop and deploy new innovative AI solutions,” says Kim Povlsen , CEO and President of Universal Robots. “We are already the leading platform for bringing artificial intelligence cobot applications to market and now we are pushing the boundaries even further. The most interesting thing will be to see the impact of these new possibilities on our partners and end customers.”
James Davidson , director of artificial intelligence at Teradyne Robotics, elaborates:
“The UR AI Accelerator is built for areas where AI will really matter – if you build solutions on our platform, it will reduce your deployment time and reduce the risk of developing AI-based solutions. Our goal is to take physical AI to a whole new level, and the AI Accelerator is just the first in a series of AI-powered products and features that UR is preparing to make robotics more accessible than ever before.”
In the same week that hundreds of robotics software developers will gather at ROSCon 2024 in Odense , Denmark , UR’s hometown, the UR AI Accelerator will be demonstrated at ROSCon with a CNC machine operator application.
The PolyScope X platform is available worldwide and can be used for all cobot automation applications in various industries. Its advanced flexibility and extensibility will be showcased at the PolyScope X Festival in November , where a number of solutions already developed on this new platform, including AI solutions, will be presented. After a small hardware upgrade, the software is compatible with the UR series cobots and the new generation UR20 and UR30 cobots.
