Twitter’s New Home Page Focuses On Content, Users
Twitter is testing a new home page design that introduces new users to a wider view of the site’s functionality by focusing on specific content and users rather than the more nebulous idea of trending keywords and hashtags. I can’t get the new home page to load, so here’s a look at the screenshot Twitter […]
Twitter’s previous home page overhaul happened last summer when it emphasized search and hot topics, both of which rely to some degree on users knowing more about Twitter than many newcomers do. The new home page introduces 20 Twitter members under a “See who’s here” banner, and provides three “Top tweets” that are chosen algorithmically and will update automatically every few seconds. Those tweets seem to mirror @toptweets, an official Twitter account.
The company’s blog post explains that this new design, like others before it, is focused on the new user experience:
With so much being shared, we know that there’s something of value for everyone. People who internalize the value of Twitter understand the power of this simple medium. But it hasn’t been easy to make that value transparent or obvious for curious folks coming to Twitter for the first time.
